Local Hotspots: Tauranga Farmers’ Market

One of my greatest pleasures here is going to the Tauranga’s Farmers’ Market, every Saturday early in the morning. I love the atmosphere there, the fresh local produce, sampling the delicious foods and of course the music!

This farmers market located near the city is open all year round. Of course Spring and Summer are the best times to come, because there are so much local veggies and fruits and nuts. You can have a break with a ‘long or short black and carrot cake if you like, under the sun screen whilst enjoying the live music or have a chat with locals or tourists. All the stallholders are very friendly, always take  time to answer my questions about their produce. All the produce is locally grown, a lot of it organic, and luckily it’s still growing. They follow sustainable growing practices.

There are also many other awesome products besides veggies, fruit and nuts. Delicious olive oil, raw honey, eggs fresh from the farm, sourdough bread in many varieties and smoothies! My favourite, beetroot smoothie, yummie! And they even have healthy food for your dog! Most of the time they all have recipes if you want. I love to meet the farmer who grew my food, it’s so different from supermarket produce. You really can taste the difference! It’s a very pleasant way to get fresh healthy produce and also important, at competitive prices! Why not go to the Farmers Market and have an awesome Saturday morning! In a few weeks the fresh crop avocado’s will be almost ripe, can’t wait! It’s a real ‘avocado paradise’ here in this area, lucky me.
